What is gambling addiction?

Gambling is a popular recreational activity, but for a lot of people, it can spiral into addiction and lead to several forms of related harm.

Gambling addiction is when you experience an impulse to gamble, regardless of the consequences. Gambling doesn’t need to be an addiction to be a problem. Problem gambling is any gambling behaviour that disrupts your life and studies in some way.

One of the most common results of a gambling addiction or gambling problems is loss of money and debt. Often the temptation is to continue gambling to win back the money to pay the debts but, more often than not, this results in a vicious cycle.

Student Wellbeing Service

The Wellbeing Service is part of the Student Support and Wellbeing Service based within Student Services. We have professionally qualified counsellors, mental health professionals and information specialists that are experienced in helping students to deal with all kinds of practical and emotional issues such as study related matters, trauma, relationships, emotional regulation, mental health disability related issues, accessibility, harassment, inclusion and much more.
