Formal Reporting Options

Following an incident of sexual misconduct, violence or harassment, you can choose to report the matter formally, to the police and/or the University.

Reporting to the Police

You can report any matter of sexual violence, harassment, hate crime or racial abuse to the Police by calling 999 in an emergency or 101 in a non-emergency. You can also visit the Bangor Police Station and speak directly to a member of staff.

In cases of sexual violence, you can also report matters to , the local Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC).

Reporting to the University

In addition to, or instead of reporting to the police, reports against student and/or staff can be submitted formally to the University to be addressed as a matter of misconduct. The University will consider the report, investigate, and determine whether a breach of our rules and regulations has occurred and if so, will sanction the appropriate use of disciplinary action.

The University may not be able to investigate or take disciplinary action whilst a criminal process is taking place, but we can take steps to ensure your safety whilst any investigation is ongoing and in some cases, take precautionary action. Any action taken by the University does not depend on the outcome of a criminal investigation.

The Student Casework Team can accept your formal report and will manage all cases of student non-academic misconduct.

Reporting Anonymously

You can also report any incident of sexual misconduct, violence or harassment to the University anonymously and you can do this confidentially through the Student Casework Team .

The University may not be able to investigate an anonymous report fully, but the information provided can be used to identify whether there have been similar complaints and whether there is a pattern of behaviour or trends which should be investigated.
