Riaz began her career as a Chartered Accountant, gaining experience as an Operational Director and Company Accountant. She also ran her own distance learning company, offering A-level courses via video conferencing to schools across England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

In January 2018, Riaz joined Bangor Business School as a Lecturer in Accounting for undergraduate programs. Previously, she had served as an Associate Lecturer for ACCA professional courses, teaching modules such as Financial Management, Financial Reporting, Advanced Auditing and Assurance, Advanced Performance Management, and Strategic Business Reporting to industry professionals. With over twenty years of experience, Riaz brings deep expertise in delivering professional exams and has collaborated with various Higher Education Institutes to deliver online modules to undergraduate and postgraduate students using advanced technology.

Her excellence in teaching has been widely recognized over the years. In July 2020, she earned the title of Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) for her outstanding teaching skills. The following year, in May 2021, she was nominated for the Student Teacher-Led Award (STLA) and was shortlisted, with the panel recognizing her as one of the university’s best teachers. In July 2021, Riaz received the Îá°®³Ô¹Ï Teaching Fellowship, further highlighting her commitment to exceptional teaching and learning. Later that year, in October 2021, she was nominated for the National Teaching Fellowship (NTF) award. Her leadership and teaching excellence were again recognized in February 2022, when she was awarded the title of Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA).

In May 2023, Riaz was nominated by Bangor Business School students for the Teacher of the Year award. Most recently, in 2024, she successfully completed the prestigious Aurora Women in Leadership program, an initiative she was selected to participate in, further enhancing her leadership skills and contributions to the field.
