The location, the scenery and the surrounding area are amongst the reasons why many of our students choose to come to Bangor. One thing’s for sure, all this on your doorstep definitely adds a different dimension to student life!
In Bangor...
Bangor has the longest high street in Wales, with a mix of national chain stores and smaller local businesses. Most of the University buildings and Halls are within walking distance of the city centre.
The Students’ Union provides much of the focus for activities and entertainment, and all of our clubs and societies are free to join.
An on-going multi-million pound investment programme has already resulted in new student residences, a new Students’ Union nightclub and new academic facilities.
Sports Centre
The University’s Canolfan Brailsford Sport Centre has recently been redeveloped and includes a two storey gym, state of the art fitness equipment, sports halls, climbing wall, squash courts and a brand new sports dome which is home to indoor netball and tennis courts.
The Pontio Centre
The is a major social hub for students as well as an internationally significant centre for learning, innovation and the performing arts. In addition to being a new home for our Students’ Union, it includes a theatre, studio theatre, cinema, lecture theatres, exhibition spaces, bar and café.
Around Bangor...
Anglesey...
Anglesey is one of the most popular destinations in North Wales and because it’s an island there’s the added bonus of never being too far from the sea. There are plenty of beaches to chose from so when the sun is smiling, get your friends together for a spot of sunbathing. Or if you’re the sporty type take your board with you because the island is a popular spot for surfers.
Anglesey is also your gateway to Ireland and regular ferries run from Holyhead to Dublin, with the journey taking around two hours.
Snowdonia National Park
The Snowdonia National Park’s 25 miles of mountains, lakes and rivers offer plenty of opportunities for you to enjoy the great outdoors.
Walking, climbing, kayaking and canoeing are just some of the sports that can be enjoyed in the area, which is also home to Surf Snowdonia surfing lagoon, Europe's longest and fastest zip wires at Zip World Velocity and Zip World Titan, and Bounce Below, a cavern of underground trampolines!
Many of the University’s sports clubs organise regular trips to Snowdonia.
